218. Little Eva "The Loco Motion"
After watching her babysitter Eva Boyd dance to music on the radio, Brill Building tunesmiths Carole King and Gerry Goffin wrote a song around her moves and recorded a demo with Eva singing lead. Their producer thought the demo was perfect the way it was and released it in that raw form. And it's a good thing, too, because messing with perfection is usually a bad idea.
Announcing itself with snare blast and a bleat of sax, the tune chugs along perfectly and seamlessly into it's positively contagious chorus, adding up to the best dance craze record in rock and roll history. Some songs ask you to dance, this one pretty much commands you.
