235. Funkadelic "Super Stupid"
Some people have suggested that Funkadelic were basically R&B's answer to the hard rock and heavy metal making the rounds of the arenas in the early 70's. This, of course, is an obtuse oversimplification of Funkadelic's contribution to modern music. However, if someone wanted to make such an argument, 'Super Stupid,' would be some compelling evidence.
Some guitarists have been described as having a 'machine-gun' sound, but here Eddie Hazel and Tawl Ross use their axes like flamethrowers, spraying the song with sheets of incediary fuzzed up sound over a beat that sounds like Godzilla gone frooging. And in the midst of this sonic tornado, rock's greatest keyboard nerd Bernie Worell provides some expertly placed synth puctuation. The mothership hasn't just landed here, it's invaded. Don't bother running for the hills, just get of your ass and dance.
Super Stupid? Stoopit fresh, maybe. Dope, even.
